Brownie

Some say he was stitched together from the left over parts a drug deal gone bad. Others whisper that after being beaten to death by an unhinged comedian with a crowbar, he was resurrected by shady fringe scientists in order to bring about the demise of a globally incorporated company with ties to vigilante justice. A handful would have you believe he is simply a Devon boi that’s been lost in the dark corners of his own cracked mind. The truth? Probably lies somewhere in between and like Chuck said “don’t believe the hype”

Growing up as the runt of the litter and in and out of hospitals Brownie grew up with a pen in hand, has been drawing as long as he can remember and was introduced to calligraphy by his mother goose at the tender age of 8. After being emotionally scarred by 2 years practicing as a professional piercer Brownie moved on to tattooing in 2004 from the backstreets of an old school biker studio in Exeter. He received no formal apprenticeship and was thrown in the deep end after the studio owner broke both forearms in a bike accident. He cut his teeth on Old English names and tribal sleeves.

Throughout his service in the tattoo industry Brownie has worked in many styles including New School colour, American and Japanese Traditional and black and grey. Having been known to refer to himself as a “Jack of all trades, master of dumb” Brownie finally naturally came full circle and returned to slanging letters after never feeling he could produce original art in any other style. Luckily Brownie has traveled many roads since those early days and has studied the mysterious art of letterforms from many different masters. His current style reflects influences of American west coast script and classical calligraphy.

Outside of tattooing Brownie can be found lurking in the abandoned buildings of The Kingdom of Fife, following the ever present lure of adventure on road or simply painting and creating in his padded cell.
